We know that many people will be getting their doorsteps ready for Halloween this weekend, but what should you do if your pet ingests some of the pumpkin?
Pumpkins, which belong to the Cucurbitaceae (gourd) family, can sometimes contain bitter-tasting compounds, but they have now been bred out of crop varieties. Generally, if the pumpkin is shop-bought it is not bitter tasting. Accidental ingestion of non-bitter plant material may cause a mild gastrointestinal upset in non-herbivores and most cases can be managed at home.
