We receive a large number of calls about animals that have ingested rat and mouse poison. There are a lot of different types of these poisons available and they come in varying concentrations. We are most commonly called about anticoagulant rodenticides which, when a toxic dose is ingested or if it is ingested repeatedly in small quantities, act by blocking a critical step in the blood clotting process which can lead to uncontrolled bleeding.
Depending on the individual circumstances, treatment options can vary and in some cases (depending on the type and strength of poison and the amount ingested), treatment may not be required at all!
It is always worth calling us for advice before initiating treatment.
