Lily (black and white) is a gorgeous 6-month-old cat who recently managed to pierce a glowstick and ingest some of the liquid within.  Her owner called Animal PoisonLine and discussed the situation with a member of the team.

Glow sticks will usually only cause mild signs when ingested, which in most cases can be managed supportively at home.  They are bitter tasting and therefore most animals will only ingest a small amount of the liquid.  There is also foreign body risk if parts of the plastic are swallowed.

We were able to reassure Lily’s owner that she could remain where she was at home.  Lily’s owner sent us this lovely photograph a few days later of Lily cuddling up to her sister, Daisy.
